Psalm 59
ESV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
English Standard VersionNew Living Translation
Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; protect me from those who rise up against me;1Rescue me from my enemies, O God. Protect me from those who have come to destroy me.
deliver me from those who work evil, and save me from bloodthirsty men.2Rescue me from these criminals; save me from these murderers.
For behold, they lie in wait for my life; fierce men stir up strife against me. For no transgression or sin of mine, O LORD,3They have set an ambush for me. Fierce enemies are out there waiting, LORD, though I have not sinned or offended them.
for no fault of mine, they run and make ready. Awake, come to meet me, and see!4I have done nothing wrong, yet they prepare to attack me. Wake up! See what is happening and help me!
You, LORD God of hosts, are God of Israel. Rouse yourself to punish all the nations; spare none of those who treacherously plot evil. Selah5O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, wake up and punish those hostile nations. Show no mercy to wicked traitors. Interlude
Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city.6They come out at night, snarling like vicious dogs as they prowl the streets.
There they are, bellowing with their mouths with swords in their lips— for “Who,” they think, “will hear us?”7Listen to the filth that comes from their mouths; their words cut like swords. “After all, who can hear us?” they sneer.
But you, O LORD, laugh at them; you hold all the nations in derision.8But LORD, you laugh at them. You scoff at all the hostile nations.
O my Strength, I will watch for you, for you, O God, are my fortress.9You are my strength; I wait for you to rescue me, for you, O God, are my fortress.
My God in his steadfast love will meet me; God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.10In his unfailing love, my God will stand with me. He will let me look down in triumph on all my enemies.
Kill them not, lest my people forget; make them totter by your power and bring them down, O Lord, our shield!11Don’t kill them, for my people soon forget such lessons; stagger them with your power, and bring them to their knees, O Lord our shield.
For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips, let them be trapped in their pride. For the cursing and lies that they utter,12Because of the sinful things they say, because of the evil that is on their lips, let them be captured by their pride, their curses, and their lies.
consume them in wrath; consume them till they are no more, that they may know that God rules over Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah13Destroy them in your anger! Wipe them out completely! Then the whole world will know that God reigns in Israel. Interlude
Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city.14My enemies come out at night, snarling like vicious dogs as they prowl the streets.
They wander about for food and growl if they do not get their fill.15They scavenge for food but go to sleep unsatisfied.
But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress.16But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress.
O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love.17O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love.
