English Standard Version | NET Bible |
For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. | 1For the music director, Jeduthun; a psalm of David. For God alone I patiently wait; he is the one who delivers me. |
He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. | 2He alone is my protector and deliverer. He is my refuge; I will not be upended. |
How long will all of you attack a man to batter him, like a leaning wall, a tottering fence? | 3How long will you threaten a man? All of you are murderers, as dangerous as a leaning wall or an unstable fence. |
They only plan to thrust him down from his high position. They take pleasure in falsehood. They bless with their mouths, but inwardly they curse. Selah | 4They spend all their time planning how to bring him down. They love to use deceit; they pronounce blessings with their mouths, but inwardly they utter curses. (Selah) |
For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. | 5Patiently wait for God alone, my soul! For he is the one who gives me confidence. |
He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. | 6He alone is my protector and deliverer. He is my refuge; I will not be upended. |
On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. | 7God delivers me and exalts me; God is my strong protector and my shelter. |
Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah | 8Trust in him at all times, you people! Pour out your hearts before him! God is our shelter! (Selah) |
Those of low estate are but a breath; those of high estate are a delusion; in the balances they go up; they are together lighter than a breath. | 9Men are nothing but a mere breath; human beings are unreliable. When they are weighed in the scales, all of them together are lighter than air. |
Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them. | 10Do not trust in what you can gain by oppression! Do not put false confidence in what you can gain by robbery! If wealth increases, do not become attached to it! |
Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God, | 11God has declared one principle; two principles I have heard: God is strong, |
and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work. | 12and you, O Lord, demonstrate loyal love. For you repay men for what they do. |
