Psalm 56
ESV Parallel NET [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
English Standard VersionNET Bible
Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples on me; all day long an attacker oppresses me;1For the music director; according to the yonath-elem-rechovim style; a prayer of David, written when the Philistines captured him in Gath. Have mercy on me, O God, for men are attacking me! All day long hostile enemies are tormenting me.
my enemies trample on me all day long, for many attack me proudly.2Those who anticipate my defeat attack me all day long. Indeed, many are fighting against me, O Exalted One.
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.3When I am afraid, I trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?4In God--I boast in his promise--in God I trust, I am not afraid. What can mere men do to me?
All day long they injure my cause; all their thoughts are against me for evil.5All day long they cause me trouble; they make a habit of plotting my demise.
They stir up strife, they lurk; they watch my steps, as they have waited for my life.6They stalk and lurk; they watch my every step, as they prepare to take my life.
For their crime will they escape? In wrath cast down the peoples, O God!7Because they are bent on violence, do not let them escape! In your anger bring down the nations, O God!
You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?8You keep track of my misery. Put my tears in your leather container! Are they not recorded in your scroll?
Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call. This I know, that God is for me.9My enemies will turn back when I cry out to you for help; I know that God is on my side.
In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise,10In God--I boast in his promise--in the LORD--I boast in his promise--
in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?11in God I trust, I am not afraid. What can mere men do to me?
I must perform my vows to you, O God; I will render thank offerings to you.12I am obligated to fulfill the vows I made to you, O God; I will give you the thank-offerings you deserve,
For you have delivered my soul from death, yes, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.13when you deliver my life from death. You keep my feet from stumbling, so that I might serve God as I enjoy life.
