ESV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
English Standard VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
1Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.1A Song of Ascents, of Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain.
2It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.2It is vain for you to rise up early, To retire late, To eat the bread of painful labors; For He gives to His beloved even in his sleep.
3Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.3Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.
4Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.4Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth.
5Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.5How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed When they speak with their enemies in the gate.
