Berean Study Bible | New Living Translation |
For the choirmaster. According to Gittith. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. How lovely is Your dwelling place, O LORD of Hosts! | 1How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of Heaven’s Armies. |
My soul longs, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. | 2I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the LORD. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God. |
Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she places her young near Your altars, O LORD of Hosts, my King and my God. | 3Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young at a place near your altar, O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God! |
How blessed are those who dwell in Your house! They are ever praising You. Selah | 4What joy for those who can live in your house, always singing your praises. Interlude |
Blessed are those whose strength is in You, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. | 5What joy for those whose strength comes from the LORD, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. |
As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; even the autumn rain covers it with pools. | 6When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings. |
They go from strength to strength, until each appears before God in Zion. | 7They will continue to grow stronger, and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem. |
O LORD God of Hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah | 8O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies, hear my prayer. Listen, O God of Jacob. Interlude |
Take notice of our shield, O God, and look with favor on the face of Your anointed. | 9O God, look with favor upon the king, our shield! Show favor to the one you have anointed. |
For better is one day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. | 10A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. |
For the LORD God is a sun and a shield; the LORD gives grace and glory; He withholds no good thing from those who walk with integrity. | 11For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. |
O LORD of Hosts, how blessed is the man who trusts in You! | 12O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you. |
