“At this my heart also pounds and leaps from its place.1At this also my heart pounds and leaps from its place.
Listen closely to the thunder of His voice and the rumbling that comes from His mouth.2Listen carefully to the thunder of his voice, to the rumbling that proceeds from his mouth.
He unleashes His lightning beneath the whole sky and sends it to the ends of the earth.3Under the whole heaven he lets it go, even his lightning to the far corners of the earth.
Then there comes a roaring sound; He thunders with His majestic voice. He does not restrain the lightning when His voice resounds.4After that a voice roars; he thunders with an exalted voice, and he does not hold back his lightning bolts when his voice is heard.
God thunders wondrously with His voice; He does great things we cannot comprehend.5God thunders with his voice in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding.
For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the gentle rain, ‘Pour out a mighty downpour.’6For to the snow he says, 'Fall to earth,' and to the torrential rains, 'Pour down.'
He seals up the hand of every man, so that all men may know His work.7He causes everyone to stop working, so that all people may know his work.
The wild animals enter their lairs; they settle down in their dens.8The wild animals go to their lairs, and in their dens they remain.
The tempest comes from its chamber, and the cold from the driving north winds.9A tempest blows out from its chamber, icy cold from the driving winds.
By the breath of God the ice is formed and the watery expanses are frozen.10The breath of God produces ice, and the breadth of the waters freeze solid.
He loads the clouds with moisture; He scatters His lightning through them.11He loads the clouds with moisture; he scatters his lightning through the clouds.
They swirl about, whirling at His direction, accomplishing all that He commands over the face of all the earth.12The clouds go round in circles, wheeling about according to his plans, to carry out all that he commands them over the face of the whole inhabited world.
Whether for punishment or for His land, He accomplishes this in His loving devotion.13Whether it is for punishment for his land, or whether it is for mercy, he causes it to find its mark.
Listen to this, O Job; stand still and consider the wonders of God.14"Pay attention to this, Job! Stand still and consider the wonders God works.
Do you know how God dispatches the clouds or makes the lightning flash?15Do you know how God commands them, how he makes lightning flash in his storm cloud?
Do you understand how the clouds float, those wonders of Him who is perfect in knowledge?16Do you know about the balancing of the clouds, that wondrous activity of him who is perfect in knowledge?
You whose clothes get hot when the land lies hushed under the south wind,17You, whose garments are hot when the earth is still because of the south wind,
can you, like Him, spread out the skies to reflect the heat like a mirror of bronze?18will you, with him, spread out the clouds, solid as a mirror of molten metal?
Teach us what we should say to Him; we cannot draw up our case when our faces are in darkness.19Tell us what we should say to him. We cannot prepare a case because of the darkness.
Should He be told that I want to speak? Would a man ask to be swallowed up?20Should he be informed that I want to speak? If a man speaks, surely he would be swallowed up!
Now no one can gaze at the sun when it is bright in the skies after the wind has swept them clean.21But now, the sun cannot be looked at--it is bright in the skies--after a wind passed and swept the clouds away.
Out of the north He comes in golden splendor; awesome majesty surrounds Him.22From the north he comes in golden splendor; around God is awesome majesty.
The Almighty is beyond our reach; He is exalted in power! In His justice and great righteousness He does not oppress.23As for the Almighty, we cannot attain to him! He is great in power, but justice and abundant righteousness he does not oppress.
Therefore, men fear Him, for He is not partial to the wise in heart.”24Therefore people fear him, for he does not regard all the wise in heart."
