First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone—1I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
for kings and all those in authority—so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity.2For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,3For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.4Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
who gave Himself as a ransom for all—the testimony that was given at just the right time.6Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
For this reason I was appointed as a preacher, an apostle, and a faithful and true teacher of the Gentiles. I am telling the truth; I am not lying about anything.7Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or dissension.8I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
Likewise, I want the women to adorn themselves with respectable apparel, with modesty, and with self-control, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,9In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess to worship God.10But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
A woman must learn in quietness and full submissiveness.11Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; she is to remain quiet.12But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
For Adam was formed first, and then Eve.13For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman who was deceived and fell into transgression.14And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
Women, however, will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.15Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
