It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is intolerable even among pagans: A man has his father’s wife.1It is widely reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and the kind of sexual immorality that is not even tolerated among the Gentiles--a man is living with his father's wife.
And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have been stricken with grief and have removed from your fellowship the man who did this?2And you are inflated with pride, instead of filled with grief so that he who has committed this act might be removed from your congregation.
Although I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit, and I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present.3For though I am absent in body but present in spirit, I have already decided about the one who has done this thing as though I were present.
When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, along with the power of the Lord Jesus,4When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus with my spirit and with the power of our Lord Jesus,
hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the Day of the Lord.5turn that one over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord.
Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven works through the whole batch of dough?6Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast permeates the whole batch of dough?
Get rid of the old leaven, that you may be a new unleavened batch, as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.7Clean out the old yeast so that you may be a new batch. You are indeed unleavened, for Christ our Passover has been sacrificed.
Therefore let us keep the feast, not with the old bread, leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and of truth.8Therefore, let us observe the feast, not with old yeast or with the yeast of malice and evil but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
I wrote you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people.9I wrote to you in a letter not to associate with sexually immoral people.
I was not including the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world.10I did not mean the immoral people of this world or the greedy and swindlers or idolaters; otherwise you would have to leave the world.
But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a verbal abuser, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.11But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer who is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person.
What business of mine is it to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?12For what business is it of mine to judge outsiders? Don't you judge those who are inside?
God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.”13But God judges outsiders. Put away the evil person from among yourselves.
