A psalm of Asaph. God presides over heaven's court; he pronounces judgment on the heavenly beings:
But these oppressors know nothing; they are so ignorant! They wander about in darkness, while the whole world is shaken to the core.
Listen to the LORD, you leaders of "Sodom." Listen to the law of our God, people of "Gomorrah."
So I will go and speak to their leaders. Surely they know the ways of the LORD and understand God's laws." But the leaders, too, as one man, had thrown off God's yoke and broken his chains.
Then he said to me, "The sins of the people of Israel and Judah are very, very great. The entire land is full of murder; the city is filled with injustice. They are saying, 'The LORD doesn't see it! The LORD has abandoned the land!'
"Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds, the leaders of Israel. Give them this message from the Sovereign LORD: What sorrow awaits you shepherds who feed yourselves instead of your flocks. Shouldn't shepherds feed their sheep?
Your leader will break out and lead you out of exile, out through the gates of the enemy cities, back to your own land. Your king will lead you; the LORD himself will guide you."
