I Fear, I Say, Greatly for Thee, Lest...
There, in a foreign land, you will worship idols made from wood and stone--gods that neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.
Look! Those who do evil have fallen! They are thrown down, never to rise again.
O LORD God of Heaven's Armies, the God of Israel, wake up and punish those hostile nations. Show no mercy to wicked traitors. Interlude
They have ears but cannot hear, and noses but cannot smell.
The living at least know they will die, but the dead know nothing. They have no further reward, nor are they remembered.
Someone may say to you, "Let's ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the dead. With their whisperings and mutterings, they will tell us what to do." But shouldn't people ask God for guidance? Should the living seek guidance from the dead?
What will you do when I punish you, when I send disaster upon you from a distant land? To whom will you turn for help? Where will your treasures be safe?
