Instructions to Elders

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ's sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed:1So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed:1Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed,1The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:1Therefore, as a fellow elder and witness to the sufferings of the Messiah and also a participant in the glory about to be revealed, I exhort the elders among you:
2Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, watching over them--not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve;2shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly;2shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness;2Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;2Shepherd God's flock among you, not overseeing out of compulsion but freely, according to God's will; not for the money but eagerly;
3not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.3not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.3nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock.3Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.3not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.
4And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.4And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.4And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.4And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.4And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

Cast Your Cares on Him

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
5In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble."5Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”5You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.5Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.5In the same way, you younger men, be subject to the elders. And all of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.6Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,6Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time,6Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:6Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time,
7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.7casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.7casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.7Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.7casting all your care on Him, because He cares about you.
8Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.8Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.8Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:8Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.
9Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.9Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.9But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.9Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.9Resist him and be firm in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world.

Benediction and Final Greetings

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
10And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.10And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.10After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.10But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.10Now the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will personally restore, establish, strengthen, and support you after you have suffered a little.
