1Simon Peter, a bond-slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained an equally valued (latin-coequal) faith with ours, through the righteousness (justice) of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:
2Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge (recognition, cognizance, know upon, latin-cognition) of God and of Jesus our Lord. 3His divine power having given to us all things advantageous for life and godliness through the knowledge (knowing upon, recognition, cognizance) of the One having called us to His own glory and virtue (moral excellence/goodness), 4through which He has given His preciously valued (latin-pretiosa-expensive root is price) and great (latin-maxima-greatest) promises to us, so that through these you might become partakers of the divine (theias, latin-divinae) nature, having escaped (fled away from) the corruption (decay, deterioration, destruction from decay) in the world in passionate urge (lust). 5And for this very reason also, personally carry through with all speedy diligence, supplying (supplying upon) virtue (excellence) in your faith, 6and knowledge in virtue, and inner-dominion (mastery within, control within, temperance, latin-abstinentiam-abstinence) in knowledge; and endurance in inner-dominion; 7and godliness in endurance; and brotherly affection in godliness; and love in brotherly affection. 8For these things already existing and abounding in you make you neither idle (lazy, inactive, non-working) nor unfruitful unto the knowledge (knowing upon, recognition, cognizance) of our Lord Jesus Christ; 9For in whomever these things are not present, he is blind, being short sighted, having received forgetfulness of the purification (purging, cleansing) of his former sins. 10Therefore all the more, brothers, be speedily diligent, to make your calling and election (eklogen-choosing out, selection, conclusively speak out of and to a given outcome, latin-electionem) sure (secure, solid, solid/sure enough to walk on), for in practicing these things you shall never stumble at any time. 11For in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ will be richly (abundantly) supplied to you. 12Therefore I will always be ready to remind you concerning these things, although knowing them and having been confirmed in the truth being present in you. 13And I consider (lead, suppose) it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up (arouse your mind) by (in) reminding you; 14Knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle is impending, just as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made evident (clear) to me; 15And I will be speedily diligent to make a lasting remembrance of these things for you to always have after my departure. 16For we have not followed out cleverly devised myths (fables) when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; but rather having been eyewitnesses (looker-upon, spectator) of His majesty (splendor, greatness, latin-magnitudinis-greatness like magnitude). 17For having received honor (valuing) and glory from God the Father, such a voice having been brought (carried) to Him by (under) the Majestic Glory: “This is My beloved Son unto whom I am well-pleased.” 18And this voice that we heard having been brought (carried) from out of heaven, when we were with Him on the holy mountain. 19And we have more sure the prophetic word, to which you do well taking heed, as to a lamp (oil-fed portable lamp) shining (latin-lucenti) in a dark place, until this day should have dawned and the morning star (light-bearing/carrying/bringing, radiant) should have arisen in your hearts; 20Knowing this first, that all prophecy of Scripture is not of its own interpretation (to loose upon, unraveling, explanation, “untying/unpacking/unloosing unterpretation knots”). 21For a prophecy was not brought forth (carried, beared) at any time by the will of man, but rather men spoke from God, being carried (brought forth, beared, latin-inspirati-inspired) by (under) the Holy Spirit. |
