1And it was that when Shemueil was old, he made his sons Judges over Israel
2And the name of his firstborn son was Joel, and the name of his second, Abia; they were Judges in Beersheba
3And his sons did not walk in his ways, and they turned away after deceit and they took bribes and turned away justice 4And all the Elders of the children of Israel assembled, and they came to Shemueil at Ramtha 5And they said to him: “Behold, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now give us a King, that he would judge us like all the nations!” 6And the response was displeasing in the eyes of Shemueil when they said to him, “Give us a King, that he would judge us as all the nations”, and Shemueil prayed before LORD JEHOVAH 7And LORD JEHOVAH said to Shemueil: “Listen to the voice of all the people who speak to you, because it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me, that I would not reign over them 8According to all the works that they have done from the day that I brought them out from the land of Egypt and unto today, and they have forsaken me, and they have worked for other gods, so they also do to you 9And now listen to their voice, however, certainly testify to them and show them the law of the King who will reign over them” 10And Shemueil spoke all the words of LORD JEHOVAH to the people who demanded from him a King 11And he said, “This shall be the law of the King who will reign over you: “Your sons he will take and he will appoint for himself in his chariots and for his horsemen and they shall run before his chariots 12And he will make for himself Chiefs of thousands and Chiefs of hundreds and Chiefs of fifties and Chiefs of tens, and they will plow his field and they will harvest his harvest and they will make the weapons of his war and the implements of his chariots 13And your daughters he will take for Weavers and for Meal Grinders and for Bakers 14And your fields and your vineyards and your fine olive groves he will take and he will give to his Servants 15And of your grain and your vineyards he will take a tenth, and he will give it to his Eunuchs and to his Servants 16And your Servants and your Maids and your beautiful young men and your donkeys he will take and he will make his Servants 17And of your sheep he will take a tenth, and you will be Servants for him 18And you will wail on that day from before your King, whom you have chosen for yourselves, and LORD JEHOVAH shall not answer you in that day!” 19And the people did not choose to listen to the voice of Shemueil, and they said to him: “Not so, but there shall be a King be over us! 20And we will also be like all of the nations, and our King will judge us, and he will go forth before us and he shall fight our battles!” 21And Shemueil listened to all the words of the people, and he spoke them before LORD JEHOVAH 22And LORD JEHOVAH said to Shemueil: “Listen to their voice, and a King shall reign over them.” And Shemueil said to the people of Israel: “Go, each man to his town!” The Peshitta Holy Bible Translated Translated by Glenn David Bauscher Glenn David Bauscher Lulu Publishing Copyright © 2018 Lulu Publishing 3rd edition Copyright © 2019 |
