Out of the Depths

שִׁ֥יר (A Song) הַֽמַּעֲל֑וֹת (of the Ascents).

1מִמַּעֲמַקִּ֖ים (Out of the depths)

קְרָאתִ֣יךָ (I have called out to You), יְהוָֽה׃ (O YHWH).

2  אֲדֹנָי֮ (O Lord), שִׁמְעָ֪ה (listen) בְק֫וֹלִ֥י (to my voice)!

תִּהְיֶ֣ינָה (Let be) אָ֭זְנֶיךָ (Your ears) קַשֻּׁב֑וֹת (attentive) לְ֝ק֗וֹל (to the voice) תַּחֲנוּנָֽי׃ (of my supplications).

3  אִם־ (If) עֲוֺנ֥וֹת (iniquities) תִּשְׁמָר־ (You were to mark), יָ֑הּ (O YAH),

אֲ֝דֹנָ֗י (O Lord), מִ֣י (who) יַעֲמֹֽד׃ (could stand)?

4  כִּֽי־ (But) עִמְּךָ֥ (with You) הַסְּלִיחָ֑ה (is forgiveness),

לְ֝מַ֗עַן (so that) תִּוָּרֵֽא׃ (You may be feared).

5  קִוִּ֣יתִי (I wait for) יְ֭הוָה (YHWH); קִוְּתָ֣ה (waits) נַפְשִׁ֑י (my soul),

וְֽלִדְבָר֥וֹ (and in His word) הוֹחָֽלְתִּי׃ (I have hoped).

6  נַפְשִׁ֥י (My soul is) לַֽאדֹנָ֑י (for the Lord)

מִשֹּׁמְרִ֥ים (more than those watching) לַ֝בֹּ֗קֶר (for the morning)—

שֹׁמְרִ֥ים (watching) לַבֹּֽקֶר׃ (for the morning).

7  יַחֵ֥ל (Look with hope), יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (O Israel), אֶל־ (unto) יְה֫וָה (YHWH),

כִּֽי־ (for) עִם־ (with) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) הַחֶ֑סֶד (is loving devotion),

וְהַרְבֵּ֖ה (and abundant) עִמּ֣וֹ (with Him) פְדֽוּת׃ (is redemption).

8  וְ֭הוּא (And He) יִפְדֶּ֣ה (will redeem) אֶת־ (-) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (Israel)

מִ֝כֹּ֗ל (from all) עֲוֺנֹתָֽיו׃ (his iniquities).
