The Cords of the Wicked

שִׁ֗יר (A Song) הַֽמַּ֫עֲל֥וֹת (of the Ascents).

1רַ֭בַּת (Often) צְרָר֣וּנִי (they have distressed me) מִנְּעוּרַ֑י (from my youth),

יֹֽאמַר־ (let say) נָ֝א (now) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (Israel).

2  רַ֭בַּת (Often) צְרָר֣וּנִי (they have distressed me) מִנְּעוּרָ֑י (from my youth),

גַּ֝ם (yet) לֹא־ (not) יָ֥כְלוּ (prevailed) לִֽי׃ (against me).

3  עַל־ (Upon) גַּ֭בִּי (my back) חָרְשׁ֣וּ (the plowmen) חֹרְשִׁ֑ים (were plowing);

הֶ֝אֱרִ֗יכוּ (they have made long) לְמַעֲנוֹתָם׃ (their furrows).

4  יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) צַדִּ֑יק (the Righteous One);

קִ֝צֵּ֗ץ (may He cut off) עֲב֣וֹת (the cords) רְשָׁעִֽים׃ (of the wicked).

5  יֵ֭בֹשׁוּ (May they be put to shame) וְיִסֹּ֣גוּ (and turned) אָח֑וֹר (back)

כֹּ֝֗ל (all) שֹׂנְאֵ֥י (those hating) צִיּֽוֹן׃ (Zion).

6  יִ֭הְיוּ (May they be) כַּחֲצִ֣יר (like grass) גַּגּ֑וֹת (on the rooftops),

שֶׁקַּדְמַ֖ת (before) שָׁלַ֣ף (it can grow) יָבֵֽשׁ׃ (that has withered),

7  שֶׁלֹּ֤א (unable) מִלֵּ֖א (to fill) כַפּ֥וֹ (the hand) קוֹצֵ֗ר (of one reaping)

וְחִצְנ֥וֹ (or the bosom) מְעַמֵּֽר׃ (of one binding sheaves).

8  וְלֹ֤א (And neither) אָֽמְר֨וּ׀ (let say) הָעֹבְרִ֗ים (those passing by),

בִּרְכַּֽת־ (The blessing) יְהוָ֥ה (of YHWH) אֲלֵיכֶ֑ם (be upon you⁺);

בֵּרַ֥כְנוּ (we bless) אֶ֝תְכֶ֗ם (you⁺) בְּשֵׁ֣ם (in the name) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).
