Zion’s Captives Restored

שִׁ֗יר (A Song) הַֽמַּ֫עֲל֥וֹת (of the Ascents).

בְּשׁ֣וּב (In the turning back) 1יְ֭הוָה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) שִׁיבַ֣ת (of the captivity) צִיּ֑וֹן (of Zion),

הָ֝יִ֗ינוּ (we were) כְּחֹלְמִֽים׃ (like those dreaming).

2  אָ֤ז (Then) יִמָּלֵ֪א (was filled) שְׂח֡וֹק (with laughter) פִּינוּ֮ (our mouth),

וּלְשׁוֹנֵ֪נוּ (and our tongue) רִ֫נָּ֥ה (with a shout of joy).

אָ֭ז (Then) יֹאמְר֣וּ (they said) בַגּוֹיִ֑ם (among the nations),

הִגְדִּ֥יל (Great things) יְ֝הוָ֗ה (YHWH) לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת (has done) עִם־ (for) אֵֽלֶּה׃ (these).

3  הִגְדִּ֣יל (Great things) יְ֭הוָה (YHWH) לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת (has done) עִמָּ֗נוּ (for us);

הָיִ֥ינוּ (and we came to be) שְׂמֵחִֽים׃ (glad).

4  שׁוּבָ֣ה (Bring back), יְ֭הוָה (O YHWH), אֶת־ (-) שְׁבוּתֵנוּ (our captives),

כַּאֲפִיקִ֥ים (like streams) בַּנֶּֽגֶב׃ (in the Negev).

5  הַזֹּרְעִ֥ים (Those sowing) בְּדִמְעָ֗ה (in tears),

בְּרִנָּ֥ה (with a shout of joy) יִקְצֹֽרוּ׃ (will reap).

6  הָ֘ל֤וֹךְ (Going forth) יֵלֵ֨ךְ׀ (he who goes) וּבָכֹה֮ (and weeps),

נֹשֵׂ֪א (bearing) מֶֽשֶׁךְ־ (the basket) הַ֫זָּ֥רַע (of seed),

בֹּֽ֬א־ (coming in) יָב֥וֹא (he comes) בְרִנָּ֑ה (with a shout),

נֹ֝שֵׂ֗א (bearing) אֲלֻמֹּתָֽיו׃ (his sheaves).
