The Bible frequently emphasizes the importance of wisdom, portraying it as a gift from God that leads to righteous living and decision-making. The Book of Proverbs is particularly rich in teachings about wisdom, often personifying it as a woman calling out to those who lack understanding. Proverbs 1:7 states, "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline." This verse underscores the foundational role of reverence for God in acquiring true wisdom.

The pursuit of wisdom is encouraged throughout Scripture. In James 1:5 , believers are assured, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him." This promise highlights the accessibility of divine wisdom to those who earnestly seek it through prayer.

Wisdom is also closely associated with moral and ethical living. Planning

Planning, in the biblical sense, involves thoughtful preparation and foresight, guided by wisdom and trust in God’s providence. The Scriptures advocate for diligent planning while recognizing the sovereignty of God over human affairs. Proverbs 16:9 states, "A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps." This verse illustrates the balance between human responsibility in planning and divine control over the outcomes.

The Bible provides numerous examples of wise planning. Joseph, for instance, is a model of prudent planning in Genesis 41, where he interprets Pharaoh’s dreams and devises a strategy to store grain during seven years of abundance to prepare for the subsequent famine. His foresight not only saves Egypt but also his own family, demonstrating the importance of planning in alignment with God’s revelation.

In the New Testament, Jesus teaches about the necessity of counting the cost before undertaking significant endeavors. In Luke 14:28-30 , He says, "For which of you, wishing to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost to see if he has the resources to complete it? Otherwise, if he lays the foundation and is unable to finish the work, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, saying, ‘This man could not finish what he started to build.’" This parable emphasizes the importance of careful planning and assessment in achieving one’s goals.

While planning is essential, the Bible also warns against presumptuousness and self-reliance. James 4:13-15 cautions, "Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business, and make a profit.’ You do not even know what will happen tomorrow! What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If the Lord is willing, we will live and do this or that.’" This passage reminds believers to submit their plans to God’s will, acknowledging His ultimate authority over their lives.
