Strength

In the biblical context, strength is often understood as both physical and spiritual fortitude. It is a quality attributed to God and is also a gift bestowed upon His followers. The Bible frequently emphasizes that true strength comes from reliance on God rather than human might.

1. Divine Strength: God is depicted as the ultimate source of strength. In Psalm 18:1-2 , David declares, "I love You, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold." This passage highlights the belief that God provides protection and deliverance, serving as a refuge for those who trust in Him.

2. Human Weakness and Divine Power: The Apostle Paul speaks to the sufficiency of God's strength in human weakness. In 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 , Paul recounts the Lord's words to him: "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness." Paul concludes, "Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me." This illustrates the concept that human frailty is an opportunity for God's power to be displayed.

3. Strength in Obedience and Faith: The Bible also links strength to obedience and faith. In Joshua 1:9 , God commands Joshua, "Have I not commanded you to be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." Here, strength is associated with courage and the assurance of God's presence.

Establishment

Establishment in the biblical sense refers to being firmly rooted and grounded, often in faith, righteousness, or God's promises. It conveys a sense of stability and permanence that comes from divine support and guidance.

1. Spiritual Foundation: Establishment is frequently connected to a solid spiritual foundation. In Ephesians 3:16-17 , Paul prays for the believers, "I pray that out of the riches of His glory He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. Then you, being rooted and grounded in love..." This passage emphasizes the importance of being spiritually established through faith and love.

2. Righteousness and Justice: The Bible often associates establishment with righteousness and justice. Proverbs 16:12 states, "Wicked behavior is detestable to kings, for a throne is established through righteousness." This suggests that true establishment, whether in leadership or personal life, is achieved through adherence to righteous principles.

3. God's Promises and Plans: Establishment is also linked to the fulfillment of God's promises and plans. In 1 Peter 5:10 , Peter writes, "And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore you, secure you, strengthen you, and establish you." This verse reassures believers that God Himself will establish them, providing security and strength through trials.

In summary, strength and establishment in the Bible are deeply intertwined with faith, reliance on God, and adherence to His righteous ways. They are not merely human attributes but divine gifts that enable believers to withstand challenges and remain steadfast in their spiritual journey.
