The prophecy is recorded in 1 Kings 16:1-4 : "Then the word of the LORD came to Jehu son of Hanani against Baasha, saying: 'I lifted you up from the dust and made you ruler over My people Israel, but you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have caused My people Israel to sin, provoking Me to anger by their sins. So I am about to consume Baasha and his house, and I will make your house like that of Jeroboam son of Nebat.'"

Confrontation with Jehoshaphat

Jehu's ministry extended to the southern kingdom of Judah, where he confronted King Jehoshaphat. Despite Jehoshaphat's general faithfulness to God, he had allied himself with the wicked King Ahab of Israel. Jehu rebuked Jehoshaphat for this alliance, emphasizing the importance of separating from those who do evil. In 2 Chronicles 19:2 , Jehu's words are recorded: "Jehu son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat, 'Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the LORD? Because of this, the wrath of the LORD is upon you.'"
