In 1 Timothy 2:1-2 , Paul urges, "First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone—for kings and all those in authority—so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity."

Intercession for the Saints

The term "saints" in the New Testament refers to all believers who are set apart for God. However, over time, it has also come to denote those who have led exemplary lives of faith and virtue. The practice of seeking the intercession of saints is based on the belief in the "communion of saints," a doctrine that affirms the spiritual solidarity between the faithful on earth and those who have gone before them.

James 5:16 highlights the power of intercessory prayer: "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power to prevail." This verse underscores the belief that the prayers of those who are righteous, including the saints, are particularly effective.

The Role of the Faithful

The faithful are encouraged to pray for their priests and to seek the intercession of the saints as part of their spiritual practice. In Ephesians 6:18 , Paul exhorts believers to "pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition.
