The promises and prophecies concerning Jesus, the Christ, are woven throughout the Old Testament, serving as a testament to God's redemptive plan for humanity. These prophetic declarations not only foretell the coming of the Messiah but also outline His mission, nature, and the salvation He would bring.

Genesis 3:15 · The Protoevangelium: The first promise of a Savior is found in Genesis 3:15, where God declares to the serpent, "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel." This verse is seen as the initial promise of a Redeemer who would defeat sin and Satan, a prophecy fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 7:14 · The Virgin Birth: The prophet Isaiah foretells the miraculous birth of the Messiah, stating, "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel" . This prophecy points to the divine nature of Christ, fulfilled in the birth of Jesus to the Virgin Mary.

Isaiah 9:6-7 · The Government and Peace: Isaiah further prophesies about the coming Messiah, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace" . This passage highlights the divine titles and eternal reign of Jesus, emphasizing His role as the bringer of peace and justice.

Micah 5:2 · The Birthplace: The prophet Micah specifies the birthplace of the Messiah, "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come forth for Me one to be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times" . This prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus was born in Bethlehem, as recorded in the Gospels.

Zechariah 9:9 · The Triumphal Entry: Zechariah predicts the manner in which the Messiah would enter Jerusalem, "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! See, your King comes to you, righteous and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey" . This prophecy was fulfilled during Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, as described in the New Testament.

Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53 · The Suffering Servant: These passages vividly describe the suffering and sacrificial death of the Messiah. Psalm 22 begins with the words, "My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?" , echoing Jesus' cry on the cross. Isaiah 53 portrays the Messiah as the suffering servant who bears the sins of many, a prophecy fulfilled in the crucifixion of Jesus.

Jeremiah 31:31-34 · The New Covenant: Jeremiah speaks of a new covenant that God will establish, "Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah" . This promise is realized in Jesus, who, through His death and resurrection, inaugurates a new covenant of grace and redemption.

These prophecies and promises, among many others, underscore the divine orchestration of Jesus' life and mission. They reveal the anticipation of a Messiah who would not only fulfill the law and the prophets but also bring salvation to all who believe.
