Divine sovereignty refers to the absolute authority and control of God over all creation. It is a central theme in the Bible, emphasizing that God is the ultimate ruler and His will is supreme. The concept of divine sovereignty is foundational to understanding God's nature and His interaction with the world.

The Bible affirms God's sovereignty in numerous passages. In Isaiah 46:9-10 , God declares, "I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and all My good pleasure I will accomplish.’" This passage highlights God's unique ability to declare the future and ensure the fulfillment of His purposes.

Psalm 115:3 states, "Our God is in heaven; He does as He pleases." This verse underscores the freedom and authority of God to act according to His will, unencumbered by any external force. Similarly, Daniel 4:35 proclaims, "All the peoples of the earth are counted as nothing, and He does as He pleases with the army of heaven and the peoples of the earth. There is no one who can restrain His hand or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’"

Proverbs 21:1 illustrates this by stating, "The king’s heart is a waterway in the hand of the LORD; He directs it where He pleases." In James 4:13-15 , believers are cautioned against presumption in their planning: "Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business, and make a profit.’ You do not even know what will happen tomorrow! What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If the Lord is willing, we will live and do this or that.’" This passage encourages humility and recognition of God's sovereignty in human affairs.
