All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, "If only we had died in the land of Egypt, or if only we had died in this wilderness! All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron,Israel’s complaint followed the fearful report of the ten spies and revealed a rejection of the leaders God had appointed. Their opposition to Moses and Aaron was ultimately rebellion against the Lord, who had delivered them from Egypt, sustained them in the wilderness, and promised them the land of Canaan. The pattern of grumbling seen in Exodus 16:2–3 and 17:3 had grown into open unbelief. Exo 16:2 And there in the desert the whole congregation of Israel… and the whole congregation said to them, The rebellion spread throughout the camp rather than remaining the fear of a few individuals. The discouraging words of the ten spies influenced the congregation, while the faith of Caleb and Joshua was rejected. Israel stood united in complaint when it should have stood united in trust and obedience. Exo 14:11 They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves… “If only we had died in the land of Egypt, The people remembered Egypt selectively, longing for a land where they had been enslaved and oppressed. Fear made bondage seem preferable to following God into an uncertain future. Their words denied the saving purpose of the exodus and treated God’s redemption as though it had brought them only harm. Exo 16:3 If only we had died by the LORD’s hand in the land of Egypt!… or if only we had died in this wilderness! Israel preferred death to entering the land God had promised to give them. Their despair exposed a refusal to believe God’s power despite the plagues, the Red Sea crossing, the daily manna, and His visible presence among them. The judgment that followed fulfilled their own request: the unbelieving generation would die in the wilderness, while their children, Caleb, and Joshua would enter Canaan (Numbers 14:29–35). 1Co 10:5 Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them,… Persons / Places / Events 1.
