2 And the Pharisees came to him, and that they might tempt him, asked him the question: Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? 3 He answered and said to them: What commandment did Moses give you? 4 They replied: Moses permitted us to write a bill of divorce, and put her away. 5 And Jesus answered and said to them: On account of the hardness of your hearts, he wrote this commandment for you. 6 But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. 7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife; 8 and the two shall be one flesh. So, then, they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore, what God has joined together, let not man put asunder. Mark 10:2-9, Anderson New Testament. Public domain.
