And the messengers of John having departed, he began to say to the crowds concerning John, What went ye forth into the desert to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

But what went ye out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those in glorious clothing, and being in luxury, are in royal abodes.

But what went ye out to see? A prophet? Yea, I say to you, superior to a prophet.

This is he of whom it has been written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.

For I say to you, Among the begotten of women none is a greater prophet than John the Immerser; and the less in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
