1 Now when all the Amorite (a sayer) kings west of the Jordan (flowing down) and all the Canaanite (merchant) kings along the coast (along the Mediterranean coast) heard how the LORD {YHWH} had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the Israelites (God prevails) until they had crossed over (until we had crossed over), their hearts melted and their spirits {ruach} failed for fear of the Israelites. 2 At that time the LORD {YHWH} said to Joshua (YHWH saves), “Make flint knives and circumcise the sons of Israel (he wrestles with God) once again \again the second time/. 3 So Joshua (YHWH saves) made flint knives and circumcised the sons of Israel (he wrestles with God) at Gibeath-haaraloth (the hill of the foreskins). 4 Now this is why Joshua (YHWH saves) circumcised them: All those who came out of Egypt (land of bondage)—all the men of war—had died on the journey in the wilderness after they had left Egypt. 5 Though all who had come out were circumcised, none of those born in the wilderness on the journey from Egypt (land of bondage) had been circumcised.
