33 They responded to Him, “We are seed of Abraham, and to no one ever have we been slaves. How do You say, ‘You⁺ will become free’?” 34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you⁺ that everyone who is doing sin is a slave of sin. 35 Now the slave does not remain in the house to the age; the son remains to the age. 36 Therefore if the Son shall set you⁺ free, you⁺ will be really free. 37 I know that you⁺ are seed of Abraham, but you⁺ seek to kill Me because My word has no place in you⁺. 38 I speak the things I have seen with the Father; and you⁺, therefore, the things you⁺ have heard with your father, you⁺ do.” 39 They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus says to them, “If you⁺ were children of Abraham, you⁺ would do the works of Abraham.
