Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii of loaves are not sufficient for them, that each might receive some little piece.”

One of His disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, says to Him,

“Here is a little boy who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are these for so many?”

Jesus said, “Make the men recline.” Now there was much grass in the place; therefore the men reclined, about five thousand in number.

And Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks, He distributed to those reclining; likewise also of the small fish, as much as they were wanting.

Now when they were filled, He says to His disciples, “Gather together the fragments having superabounded, so that nothing may be lost.”

So they gathered together and filled twelve hand-baskets of fragments from the five barley loaves that superabounded to those having eaten.
