2 Azariah (YHWH has helped) son of Hoshaiah (YHWH as saved), Johanan (YHWH has graced) son of Kareah (bald), and all the arrogant men said to Jeremiah (whom YHWH has appointed), “You are lying! The LORD our God {YHWH Elohenu} has not sent you to say, ‘You must not go to Egypt (land of bondage) to reside there.’ 3 Rather, Baruch (blessed) son of Neriah (lamp of YHWH) is inciting you against us to deliver us into the hands of the Chaldeans (the Babylonians), so that they may put us to death or exile us to Babylon (confusion by mixing)!” 4 So Johanan (YHWH has graced) son of Kareah (bald) and all the commanders of the forces disobeyed the command of the LORD {YHWH} to stay in the land of Judah (praised). 5 Instead, Johanan (YHWH has graced) son of Kareah (bald) and all the commanders of the forces took the whole remnant of Judah (praised), those who had returned to the land of Judah from all the nations to which they had been scattered, 6 the men, the women, the children, the king’s daughters, and everyone whom Nebuzaradan (Nebo has given seed) captain of the guard had allowed to remain with Gedaliah (YHWH is great) son of Ahikam (my brother has arisen), the son of Shaphan, as well as Jeremiah (whom YHWH has appointed) the prophet and Baruch (blessed) son of Neriah (lamp of YHWH). 7 So they entered the land of Egypt (land of bondage) because they did not obey the voice of the LORD {YHWH}, and they went as far as Tahpanhes (You will fill hands with pity).
