Hosea 1:1-7 ▼

1 The word of YHWH that came to Hosea son of Beeri in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Israel.

2 The beginning when YHWH first spoke by Hosea, YHWH said to Hosea, “Go take for yourself a wife of prostitution, and children of prostitution, for the land is flagrantly prostituting itself from after YHWH!”

3 And he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; and she conceived and bore to him a son.

4 And YHWH said to him: “Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little and I will avenge the bloodshed of Jezreel on the house of Jehu, and I will bring to an end the kingdom of the house of Israel.

5 And it will come to pass in that day that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.”

6 And his wife conceived again, and she bore a daughter. And He said to him: “Call her name Lo-ruhamah, for no longer will I continue to have compassion on the house of Israel, that I should ever lift the for them.

7 And on the house of Judah I will have compassion, and I will save them, by YHWH their God; I will not save them by bow, or by sword, or by battle, by horses, or by horsemen.”
