1 FOR every high priest chosen from among men is ordained on behalf of men about things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins: 2 He is one who can humble himself and have compassion on those who are ignorant and go astray: for he himself also is subject to weaknesses. 3 Because of these, he is obliged, just as he offers sacrifices for the people, likewise to offer for himself on account of his own sins. 4 And no man takes this honor unto himself, but only he who is called of God as was Aar’on. 5 So also Christ did not glorify himself by becoming a high priest, but he glorified him who said to him, Thou art my Son, Today have I begotten thee. 6 And he said also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchis'e- dec.
