These words the LORD spoke to all the assembly on the mountain out of the midst of the fire, in the cloud and in the thick darkness, with a loud voice which cannot be measured. And he wrote them upon two tablets of stone, and gave them to me.

And when you heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness and saw the mountain burning with fire, you came near to me, all the heads of your tribes and your elders;

And you said, Behold, the LORD our God has shown us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire; and have seen this day that God does talk with man, and that he lives.

Now therefore why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.

For who is there of all flesh, that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

Go near and hear all that the LORD our God shall say; and speak to us all that the LORD our God shall speak to you; and we will hear it and do it.
