Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus,

To Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

I have gratitude to God, whom I serve from the forefathers with a pure conscience, as I have unceasing remembrance of you in my prayers night and day,

longing to see you, recalling your tears, so that I may be filled with joy,

having taken remembrance of the unfeigned faith in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that it is in you also.

Because of this reason, I remind you to rekindle the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and soundness of mind.

Therefore you should not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me, His prisoner; but suffer together for the gospel according to the power of God,

the One having saved us and having called us with a holy calling, not according to our works but according to His own purpose and grace, having been given to us in Christ Jesus before times eternal,

and now having been made manifest through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, having indeed abolished death and having brought to light life and immortality through the gospel,
