4 And the woman of Tekoa spoke to the king, and she fell on her nose to the ground, and bowed low, and said, “Save me, O king.” 5 And the king said to her, “What troubles you?” And she answered, “Truly I am a woman, a widow, and my husband is dead. 6 And your maidservant had two sons, and the two fought with each other in the field, and there was no one to part them, and the one struck the one and killed him. 7 And behold, the whole family has risen up against your maidservant, and they said, ‘Give up him who struck his brother, that we may kill him for the life of his brother whom he has slain. And we will destroy also the heir.’ And they would extinguish my ember that is left, and not leave to my husband a name and remnant on the face of the earth.” 8 And the king said to the woman, “Go to your house, and I will give orders concerning you.” 9 And the woman of Tekoa said to the king, “On me, My lord the king, is the iniquity, and on the house of my father. And the king and his throne be guiltless.” 10 And the king said, “He who speaks to you, bring him to me, and he shall not touch you anymore.” 11 And she said, “Please let the king remember YHWH your God, and do not let add the avenger of blood to destroy. And they do not destroy my son.” And he said, “As YHWH lives, not one hair of your son shall fall to the ground.” 2 Samuel 14:4-11, Berean Literal Bible. Public domain.
