4 Then the LORD {YHWH} called to Samuel (his name is El), and he answered, “Here I am.” 5 He ran to Eli (ascension) and said, “Here I am, for you have called me.” “I did not call,” Eli replied. “Go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down. 6 Once again the LORD {YHWH} called, “Samuel (his name is El)!” So Samuel got up, went to Eli (ascension), and said, “Here I am, for you have called me.” “My son, I did not call,” Eli replied. “Go back and lie down.” 7 Now Samuel (his name is El) did not yet know the LORD {YHWH}, because the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him. 8 Once again, for the third time, the LORD {YHWH} called to Samuel (his name is El).
