1 Kings 17:7-16 ▼

7 And it came to pass at the end of some days that the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.

8 And the word of YHWH came to him, saying,

9 “Arise, go to Zarephath, which is unto Sidon, and dwell there. Behold, I have commanded there a widow woman to provide for you.”

10 And he arose and went to Zarephath. And he came to the gate of the city, and behold, there a widow, woman, was gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in the vessel, that I may drink.”

11 And she was going to get it, and he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”

12 And she said, “As YHWH your God lives, there is unto me no bread, but only the fullness of a palm of flour in the jar, and a little oil in the jug. And behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it and die.”

13 And Elijah said to her, “Fear not. Go, do according to your word. However, make for me from it a small cake first, and bring it to me. And for yourself and your son, make some afterward.

14 For thus says YHWH, God of Israel, ‘The jar of flour shall not be used up, and the jug of the oil shall not run dry, until the day of YHWH giving rain on the face of the earth.’”

15 And she went away and did according to the word of Elijah, and she ate, she and he and her house for days.

16 The jar of the flour was not used up, and the jug of the oil did not run dry, according to the word of YHWH that He spoke by Elijah.
