1 Remind them to be subject to principalities and authorities, to obey rule, to be ready to every good work, Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good,
2 to speak evil of no one, not to be quarrelsome—gentle, showing all meekness to all men, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.
3 for we, also, were once thoughtless, disobedient, led astray, serving manifold desires and pleasures, living in malice and envy, odious—hating one another; For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.
4 and when the kindness and the love to men of God our Savior appeared But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,
5 (not by works that [are] in righteousness that we did but according to His kindness), He saved us, through a bathing of regeneration, and a renewing of the Holy Spirit, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
6 which He poured on us richly, through Jesus Christ our Savior, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,
7 that having been declared righteous by His grace, we may become heirs according to the hope of continuous life. so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
8 The word [is] steadfast; and concerning these things I intend you to affirm fully, that they may be thoughtful, to be leading in good works—who have believed God; these are the good and profitable things to men, The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people. This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.
9 but stand away from foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about law—for they are unprofitable and vain. But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.
10 Reject a heretical man, after a first and second admonition, As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him, Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them.
11 having known that he has been subverted who [is] such, and sins, being self-condemned. knowing that such a person is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned. You may be sure that such people are warped and sinful; they are self-condemned.
12 When I will send Artemas to you, or Tychicus, be diligent to come to me to Nicopolis, for I have determined to winter there. When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. As soon as I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, because I have decided to winter there.
13 Diligently send forth Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way, that nothing to them may be lacking, Do your best to speed Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way; see that they lack nothing. Do everything you can to help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way and see that they have everything they need.
14 and let them learn—ours also—to be leading in good works to the necessary uses, that they may not be unfruitful. And let our people learn to devote themselves to good works, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not be unfruitful. Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.
15 All those with me greet you. Greet those cherishing us in faith. The grace [is] with you all! All who are with me send greetings to you. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Everyone with me sends you greetings. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all.
