1 A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to YHWH, concerning the words of Cush, the Benjamite. O YHWH my God, in You I have taken refuge; keep me safe from all those pursuing me, and deliver me, O LORD my God, in you do I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers and deliver me, A shiggaion of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning Cush, a Benjamite. LORD my God, I take refuge in you; save and deliver me from all who pursue me,
2 lest they tear my soul like a lion, tearing apart, and there is no one snatching me up. lest like a lion they tear my soul apart, rending it in pieces, with none to deliver. or they will tear me apart like a lion and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue me.
3 O YHWH my God, if I have done this, if there is injustice in my palms, O LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, LORD my God, if I have done this and there is guilt on my hands—
4 if I have dealt with the one at peace with me with evil, or have drawn out my enemy without cause, if I have repaid my friend with evil or plundered my enemy without cause, if I have repaid my ally with evil or without cause have robbed my foe—
5 may the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it, and let him trample my life to the ground, and let him set down my honor in the dust. Selah let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it, and let him trample my life to the ground and lay my glory in the dust. Selah then let my enemy pursue and overtake me; let him trample my life to the ground and make me sleep in the dust.
6 arise, O YHWH, in Your anger; lift up against the fury of my adversaries, and rouse Yourself for me; You have appointed a judgment. Arise, O LORD, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies; awake for me; you have appointed a judgment. Arise, LORD, in your anger; rise up against the rage of my enemies. Awake, my God; decree justice.
7 And let the congregation of peoples surround You; and over it return in the heights. Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered about you; over it return on high. Let the assembled peoples gather around you, while you sit enthroned over them on high.
8 YHWH shall judge the peoples; Judge me, O YHWH, according to my righteousness, and according to my integrity within me. The LORD judges the peoples; judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and according to the integrity that is in me. Let the LORD judge the peoples. Vindicate me, LORD, according to my righteousness, according to my integrity, O Most High.
9 Please, let the evil of the wicked cease, and may you establish the righteous—even the One testing hearts and kidneys, O Righteous God. Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end, and may you establish the righteous— you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God! Bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure— you, the righteous God who probes minds and hearts.
10 My shield is on God, the One saving the upright of heart. My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a righteous judge, and a God expressing wrath on every day. God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day. God is a righteous judge, a God who displays his wrath every day.
12 If one shall not turn back, then He sharpens His sword; He has bent His bow and prepared it. If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow; If he does not relent, he will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow.
13 And for Himself He has prepared instruments of death; His arrows He makes into fiery shafts. he has prepared for him his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts. He has prepared his deadly weapons; he makes ready his flaming arrows.
14 Behold, he travails with evil, and he conceives trouble, and brings forth falsehood. Behold, the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies. Whoever is pregnant with evil conceives trouble and gives birth to disillusionment.
15 He has dug a pit and hollowed it out, and he has fallen into a pit he has made. He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole that he has made. Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit they have made.
16 His trouble shall return upon his head, and on the top of his head, his violence shall come down. His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends. The trouble they cause recoils on them; their violence comes down on their own heads.
17 I will confess YHWH according to His righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of YHWH-Elyon. I will give to the LORD the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High. I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the LORD Most High.
