For the music director, Jeduthun; a psalm of David. For God alone I patiently wait; he is the one who delivers me. For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. For the director of music. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David. Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.
He alone is my protector and deliverer. He is my refuge; I will not be upended. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
How long will you threaten a man? All of you are murderers, as dangerous as a leaning wall or an unstable fence. How long will all of you attack a man to batter him, like a leaning wall, a tottering fence? How long will you assault me? Would all of you throw me down— this leaning wall, this tottering fence?
They spend all their time planning how to bring him down. They love to use deceit; they pronounce blessings with their mouths, but inwardly they utter curses. (Selah) They only plan to thrust him down from his high position. They take pleasure in falsehood. They bless with their mouths, but inwardly they curse. Selah Surely they intend to topple me from my lofty place; they take delight in lies. With their mouths they bless, but in their hearts they curse.
Patiently wait for God alone, my soul! For he is the one who gives me confidence. For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.
He alone is my protector and deliverer. He is my refuge; I will not be upended. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
God delivers me and exalts me; God is my strong protector and my shelter. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times, you people! Pour out your hearts before him! God is our shelter! (Selah) Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
Men are nothing but a mere breath; human beings are unreliable. When they are weighed in the scales, all of them together are lighter than air. Those of low estate are but a breath; those of high estate are a delusion; in the balances they go up; they are together lighter than a breath. Surely the lowborn are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie. If weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath.
Do not trust in what you can gain by oppression! Do not put false confidence in what you can gain by robbery! If wealth increases, do not become attached to it! Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them. Do not trust in extortion or put vain hope in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them.
God has declared one principle; two principles I have heard: God is strong, Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God, One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: “Power belongs to you, God,
and you, O Lord, demonstrate loyal love. For you repay men for what they do. and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work. and with you, Lord, is unfailing love|; and, “You reward everyone according to what they have done.”
