Have mercy on me O God, according to Your loving devotion; according to the abundance of Your compassion, wipe out my transgressions. Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. For the director of music. A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba. Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is before me continually. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.
4 Against You, You alone, have I sinned, and have done the evil in your eyes, so that You are right when You speak, and You are pure when You judge. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.
5 Behold, in iniquity I was brought forth, and in sin my mother conceived me. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
6 Behold, You take delight in truth in the inner parts; in the inmost place You teach me wisdom. Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place.
7 Cleanse my sin with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

16 For You do not take delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; with a burnt offering You are not pleased. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A heart broken and crushed, O God, You will not despise. 18 By Your pleasure, do good to Zion; may You build up the walls of Jerusalem. Do good to Zion in your good pleasure; build up the walls of Jerusalem; May it please you to prosper Zion, to build up the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then You will delight in the sacrifices of righteousness, a burnt offering and whole sacrifice; then they will offer bulls upon Your altar. then will you delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on your altar. Then you will delight in the sacrifices of the righteous, in burnt offerings offered whole; then bulls will be offered on your altar.
