[A psalm by David; a [maskil] Blessed is the person whose disobedience is forgiven and whose sin is pardoned. Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Of David. A maskil. Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the person whom the LORD no longer accuses of sin and who has no deceitful thoughts. Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.
When I kept silent [about my sins], my bones began to weaken because of my groaning all day long. For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
Day and night your hand lay heavily on me. My strength shriveled in the summer heat. [Selah] For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.
I made my sins known to you, and I did not cover up my guilt. I decided to confess them to you, O LORD. Then you forgave all my sins. [Selah] I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.
For this reason let all godly people pray to you when you may be found. Then raging floodwater will not reach them. Therefore let everyone who is godly offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found; surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him. Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them.
You are my hiding place. You protect me from trouble. You surround me with joyous songs of salvation. [Selah] You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.
[The LORD says,] |I will instruct you. I will teach you the way that you should go. I will advise you as my eyes watch over you. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
Don't be stubborn like a horse or mule. [They need] a bit and bridle in their mouth to restrain them, or they will not come near you.| Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.
Many heartaches await wicked people, but mercy surrounds those who trust the LORD. Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD. Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him.
Be glad and find joy in the LORD, you righteous people. Sing with joy, all whose motives are decent. Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart! Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!
