1 PRAISE the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, my soul.
2 While I live will I praise the LORD; I will sing praises to my God as long as I live. I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.
4 His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.
5 Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God, Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD their God.

7 Who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. The LORD releases the prisoners; who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. 9 The LORD takes care of the poor; he feeds the fatherless and widows; but the way of the wicked he turns upside down. The LORD watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. The LORD watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.
