<V 139:1>Unto the end. A Psalm of David. <V 139:2>Rescue me, O Lord, from the evil man. Rescue me from the iniquitous leader. Deliver me, O LORD, from evil men; preserve me from violent men, For the director of music. A psalm of David. Rescue me, LORD, from evildoers; protect me from the violent,
<V 139:3>Those who have devised iniquities in their hearts: all day long they constructed conflicts. who plan evil things in their heart and stir up wars continually. who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.
<V 139:4>They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. The venom of asps is under their lips. They make their tongue sharp as a serpent’s, and under their lips is the venom of asps. Selah They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent’s; the poison of vipers is on their lips.
<V 139:5>Preserve me, O Lord, from the hand of the sinner, and rescue me from men of iniquity. They have decided to supplant my steps. Guard me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from violent men, who have planned to trip up my feet. Keep me safe, LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from the violent, who devise ways to trip my feet.
<V 139:6>The arrogant have hidden a snare for me. And they have stretched out cords for a snare. They have placed a stumbling block for me near the road. The arrogant have hidden a trap for me, and with cords they have spread a net; beside the way they have set snares for me. Selah The arrogant have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path.
<V 139:7>I said to the Lord: You are my God. O Lord, heed the voice of my supplication. I say to the LORD, You are my God; give ear to the voice of my pleas for mercy, O LORD! I say to the LORD, “You are my God.” Hear, LORD, my cry for mercy.
<V 139:8>Lord, O Lord, the strength of my salvation: you have overshadowed my head in the day of war. O LORD, my Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle. Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer, you shield my head in the day of battle.
<V 139:9>O Lord, do not hand me over to the sinner by my desire. They have plotted against me. Do not abandon me, lest they should triumph. Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; do not further their evil plot, or they will be exalted! Selah Do not grant the wicked their desires, LORD; do not let their plans succeed.
<V 139:10>The head of those who encompass me, the labor of their lips, will overwhelm them. As for the head of those who surround me, let the mischief of their lips overwhelm them! Those who surround me proudly rear their heads; may the mischief of their lips engulf them.
<V 139:11>Burning coals will fall upon them. You will cast them down into the fire, into miseries that they will not be able to withstand. Let burning coals fall upon them! Let them be cast into fire, into miry pits, no more to rise! May burning coals fall on them; may they be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, never to rise.
<V 139:12>A talkative man will not be guided aright upon the earth. Evils will drag the unjust man unto utter ruin. Let not the slanderer be established in the land; let evil hunt down the violent man speedily! May slanderers not be established in the land; may disaster hunt down the violent.
<V 139:13>I know that the Lord will accomplish justice for the needy and vindication for the poor. I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and will execute justice for the needy. I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
<V 139:14>So then, truly, the just will confess your name, and the upright will dwell with your countenance. Surely the righteous shall give thanks to your name; the upright shall dwell in your presence. Surely the righteous will praise your name, and the upright will live in your presence.
