Save, O LORD, for the godly one is gone; for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man. For the director of music. According to sheminith. A psalm of David. Help, LORD, for no one is faithful anymore; those who are loyal have vanished from the human race.
2 They speak deceitful and worthless words to one another; With flattering lips and a double heart they speak. Everyone utters lies to his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak. Everyone lies to their neighbor; they flatter with their lips but harbor deception in their hearts.
3 May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, The tongue that speaks great things [in boasting]; May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that makes great boasts, May the LORD silence all flattering lips and every boastful tongue—
4 Who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail; Our lips are our own; who is lord and master over us?” those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail, our lips are with us; who is master over us?” those who say, “By our tongues we will prevail; our own lips will defend us—who is lord over us?”
5 “Because of the devastation of the afflicted, because of the groaning of the needy, Now I will arise,” says the LORD; “I will place him in the safety for which he longs.” “Because the poor are plundered, because the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the LORD; “I will place him in the safety for which he longs.” “Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the LORD. “I will protect them from those who malign them.”
6 The words and promises of the LORD are pure words, Like silver refined in an earthen furnace, purified seven times. The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times. And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.
7 You, O LORD, will preserve and keep them; You will protect him from this [evil] generation forever. You, O LORD, will keep them; you will guard us from this generation forever. You, LORD, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked,
8 The wicked strut about [in pompous self-importance] on every side, As vileness is exalted and baseness is prized among the sons of men. On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the children of man. who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race.
