1 Do not be envious of men of evil, and do not desire to be with them, Be not envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them, Do not envy the wicked, do not desire their company;
2 for their heart devises violence and their lips speak trouble. for their hearts devise violence, and their lips talk of trouble. for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about making trouble.
3 By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established, By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established;
4 and by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious pleasant wealth. by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.
5 A man of wisdom is strong; and a man of knowledge strengthens power; A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might, The wise prevail through great power, and those who have knowledge muster their strength.
6 for by wise counsel you can fashion for yourself the battle, and victory is in a multitude counselors. for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory. Surely you need guidance to wage war, and victory is won through many advisers.
