| 7 | And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Behold, for these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree and do not find it. Therefore cut it down! Why does it also render the soil useless?’ | And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?’ | So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’ | |
| 8 | And answering, he says to him, ‘Sir, leave it this year also, until I may dig around it and put in manure, | And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. | “’Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. | |
| 9 | and if indeed it should make fruit in the time, so be it. But if not, you will cut it down.’” | Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.’” | If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’” | |
