1 And Job took up his discourse again: And Job again took up his discourse, and said: And Job continued his discourse:
2 |As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, the Almighty, who has made my life bitter-- “As God lives, who has taken away my right, and the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter, “As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, the Almighty, who has made my life bitter,
3 for while my spirit is still in me, and the breath from God is in my nostrils, as long as my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils, as long as I have life within me, the breath of God in my nostrils,
4 my lips will not speak wickedness, and my tongue will whisper no deceit. my lips will not speak falsehood, and my tongue will not utter deceit. my lips will not say anything wicked, and my tongue will not utter lies.
5 I will never declare that you three are in the right; until I die, I will not set aside my integrity! Far be it from me to say that you are right; till I die I will not put away my integrity from me. I will never admit you are in the right; till I die, I will not deny my integrity.
6 I will maintain my righteousness and never let it go; my conscience will not reproach me for as long as I live. I hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go; my heart does not reproach me for any of my days. I will maintain my innocence and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live.
7 |May my enemy be like the wicked, my adversary like the unrighteous. “Let my enemy be as the wicked, and let him who rises up against me be as the unrighteous. “May my enemy be like the wicked, my adversary like the unjust!
8 For what hope does the godless have when he is cut off, when God takes away his life? For what is the hope of the godless when God cuts him off, when God takes away his life? For what hope have the godless when they are cut off, when God takes away their life?
9 Does God listen to his cry when distress overtakes him? Will God hear his cry when distress comes upon him? Does God listen to their cry when distress comes upon them?
10 Will he find delight in the Almighty? Will he call out to God at all times? Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call upon God at all times? Will they find delight in the Almighty? Will they call on God at all times?
11 I will teach you about the power of God; What is on the Almighty's mind I will not conceal. I will teach you concerning the hand of God; what is with the Almighty I will not conceal. “I will teach you about the power of God; the ways of the Almighty I will not conceal.
12 If you yourselves have all seen this, Why in the world do you continue this meaningless talk? Behold, all of you have seen it yourselves; why then have you become altogether vain? You have all seen this yourselves. Why then this meaningless talk?
13 This is the portion of the wicked man allotted by God, the inheritance that evildoers receive from the Almighty. “This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage that oppressors receive from the Almighty: “Here is the fate God allots to the wicked, the heritage a ruthless man receives from the Almighty:
14 If his children increase--it is for the sword! His offspring never have enough to eat. If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword, and his descendants have not enough bread. However many his children, their fate is the sword; his offspring will never have enough to eat.
15 Those who survive him are buried by the plague, and their widows do not mourn for them. Those who survive him the pestilence buries, and his widows do not weep. The plague will bury those who survive him, and their widows will not weep for them.
16 If he piles up silver like dust and stores up clothing like mounds of clay, Though he heap up silver like dust, and pile up clothing like clay, Though he heaps up silver like dust and clothes like piles of clay,
17 what he stores up a righteous man will wear, and an innocent man will inherit his silver. he may pile it up, but the righteous will wear it, and the innocent will divide the silver. what he lays up the righteous will wear, and the innocent will divide his silver.
18 The house he builds is as fragile as a moth's cocoon, like a hut that a watchman has made. He builds his house like a moth’s, like a booth that a watchman makes. The house he builds is like a moth’s cocoon, like a hut made by a watchman.
19 He goes to bed wealthy, but will do so no more. When he opens his eyes, it is all gone. He goes to bed rich, but will do so no more; he opens his eyes, and his wealth is gone. He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more; when he opens his eyes, all is gone.
20 Terrors overwhelm him like a flood; at night a whirlwind carries him off. Terrors overtake him like a flood; in the night a whirlwind carries him off. Terrors overtake him like a flood; a tempest snatches him away in the night.
