And Job proceeded again to take up his discourse, and he said, And Job again took up his discourse, and said: And Job continued his discourse:
As God lives, who has turned aside my justice, and Shaddai who has embittered my soul— “As God lives, who has taken away my right, and the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter, “As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, the Almighty, who has made my life bitter,
that any of my breath still is in me, and the breath of God is in my nostrils, as long as my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils, as long as I have life within me, the breath of God in my nostrils,
my lips will not speak wickedness, and my tongue will not utter deceit. my lips will not speak falsehood, and my tongue will not utter deceit. my lips will not say anything wicked, and my tongue will not utter lies.
Far be it from me that I justify you⁺; until I die, I will not turn aside my integrity from me. Far be it from me to say that you are right; till I die I will not put away my integrity from me. I will never admit you are in the right; till I die, I will not deny my integrity.
My righteousness I hold fast, and I will not let go; my heart shall not reproach me in my days. I hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go; my heart does not reproach me for any of my days. I will maintain my innocence and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live.
May my enemy be like the wicked, and the one rising up against me like the unjust. “Let my enemy be as the wicked, and let him who rises up against me be as the unrighteous. “May my enemy be like the wicked, my adversary like the unjust!
For what is the hope of the godless when he is cut off, when God takes away his life? For what is the hope of the godless when God cuts him off, when God takes away his life? For what hope have the godless when they are cut off, when God takes away their life?
Will God hear his cry when distress comes upon him? Will God hear his cry when distress comes upon him? Does God listen to their cry when distress comes upon them?
Indeed will he delight himself upon Shaddai? Will he call upon God at any time? Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call upon God at all times? Will they find delight in the Almighty? Will they call on God at all times?
I will teach you⁺ about the hand of God; that which is with Shaddai I will not hide. I will teach you concerning the hand of God; what is with the Almighty I will not conceal. “I will teach you about the power of God; the ways of the Almighty I will not conceal.
Behold, you⁺—all of you⁺—you⁺ have seen this; why then do you⁺ vainly utter this vanity? Behold, all of you have seen it yourselves; why then have you become altogether vain? You have all seen this yourselves. Why then this meaningless talk?
This is the portion of the wicked man with God, and the inheritance of the ruthless which they receive from Shaddai. “This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage that oppressors receive from the Almighty: “Here is the fate God allots to the wicked, the heritage a ruthless man receives from the Almighty:
If his sons should increase, it is for the sword; and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword, and his descendants have not enough bread. However many his children, their fate is the sword; his offspring will never have enough to eat.
His survivor will be buried in death, and his widows will not lament. Those who survive him the pestilence buries, and his widows do not weep. The plague will bury those who survive him, and their widows will not weep for them.
Though he heaps up silver like the dust, and piles up clothing like the clay, Though he heap up silver like dust, and pile up clothing like clay, Though he heaps up silver like dust and clothes like piles of clay,
he may pile it up, but the righteous will wear it, and the innocent will divide his silver. he may pile it up, but the righteous will wear it, and the innocent will divide the silver. what he lays up the righteous will wear, and the innocent will divide his silver.
He builds his house like the moth, and like a booth made by a watchman. He builds his house like a moth’s, like a booth that a watchman makes. The house he builds is like a moth’s cocoon, like a hut made by a watchman.
He lies down rich, but he shall not gather again; he opens his eyes, and he is not. He goes to bed rich, but will do so no more; he opens his eyes, and his wealth is gone. He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more; when he opens his eyes, all is gone.
Terrors overwhelm him like waters; in the night a tempest steals him away. Terrors overtake him like a flood; in the night a whirlwind carries him off. Terrors overtake him like a flood; a tempest snatches him away in the night.
The east wind carries him away, and he is gone; and it sweeps him from his place. The east wind lifts him up and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place. The east wind carries him off, and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place.
And it hurls itself upon him, and does not spare; he urgently flees from its hand. It hurls at him without pity; he flees from its power in headlong flight. It hurls itself against him without mercy as he flees headlong from its power.
It claps its hands at him, and hisses at him from his place. It claps its hands at him and hisses at him from its place. It claps its hands in derision and hisses him out of his place.”
