1 And Job answers and says: Then Job answered and said: Then Job replied:
2 “How you have helped the powerless, || Saved an arm not strong! “How you have helped him who has no power! How you have saved the arm that has no strength! “How you have helped the powerless! How you have saved the arm that is feeble!
3 How you have given counsel to the unwise, || And made known wise plans in abundance. How you have counseled him who has no wisdom, and plentifully declared sound knowledge! What advice you have offered to one without wisdom! And what great insight you have displayed!
4 With whom have you declared words? And whose breath came forth from you? With whose help have you uttered words, and whose breath has come out from you? Who has helped you utter these words? And whose spirit spoke from your mouth?
5 The Rephaim are formed, || Also their inhabitants beneath the waters. The dead tremble under the waters and their inhabitants. “The dead are in deep anguish, those beneath the waters and all that live in them.
6 Sheol [is] naked before Him, || And there is no covering to destruction. Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering. The realm of the dead is naked before God; Destruction lies uncovered.
7 Stretching out the north over desolation, || Hanging the earth on nothing, He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing. He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing.
8 Binding up the waters in His thick clouds, || And the cloud is not burst under them. He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not split open under them. He wraps up the waters in his clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their weight.
9 Taking hold of the face of the throne, || Spreading His cloud over it. He covers the face of the full moon and spreads over it his cloud. He covers the face of the full moon, spreading his clouds over it.
10 He has placed a limit on the waters, || To the boundary of light with darkness. He has inscribed a circle on the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness. He marks out the horizon on the face of the waters for a boundary between light and darkness.
11 Pillars of the heavens tremble, || And they wonder because of His rebuke. The pillars of heaven tremble and are astounded at his rebuke. The pillars of the heavens quake, aghast at his rebuke.
12 By His power He has quieted the sea, || And by His understanding struck the proud. By his power he stilled the sea; by his understanding he shattered Rahab. By his power he churned up the sea; by his wisdom he cut Rahab to pieces.
13 He beautified the heavens by His Spirit, || His hand has formed the fleeing serpent. By his wind the heavens were made fair; his hand pierced the fleeing serpent. By his breath the skies became fair; his hand pierced the gliding serpent.
14 Behold, these [are] the borders of His way, and how little a matter is heard of Him, and who understands the thunder of His might?” Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways, and how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?” And these are but the outer fringe of his works; how faint the whisper we hear of him! Who then can understand the thunder of his power?”
