1 And it came to pass in the year in which king Ozias died, that I saw the Lord sitting on a high and exalted throne, and the house was full of his glory. In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple.
2 And seraphs stood round about him: each one had six wings: and with two they covered their face, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.
3 And one cried to the other, and they said, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”
4 And the lintel shook at the voice they uttered, and the house was filled with smoke. And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.
5 And I said, Woe is me, for I am pricked to the heart; for being a man, and having unclean lips, I dwell in the midst of a people having unclean lips; and I have seen with mine eyes the King, the Lord of hosts. And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!” “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”
6 And there was sent to me one of the seraphs, and he had in his hand a coal, which he had taken off the altar with the tongs: Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar.
7 and he touched my mouth, and said, Behold, this has touched thy lips, and will take away thine iniquities, and will purge off thy sins. And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.” With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
8 And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go to this people? And I said, behold, I am here , send me. And he said, Go, and say to this people, And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
9 Ye shall hear indeed, but ye shall not understand; and ye shall see indeed, but ye shall not perceive. And he said, “Go, and say to this people: “‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’ He said, “Go and tell this people: “’Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’
10 For the heart of this people has become gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and blind their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.” Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”
11 And I said, How long, O Lord? And he said, Until cities be deserted by reason of their not being inhabited, and the houses by reason of there being no men, and the land shall be left desolate. Then I said, “How long, O Lord?” And he said: “Until cities lie waste without inhabitant, and houses without people, and the land is a desolate waste, Then I said, “For how long, Lord?” And he answered: “Until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until the houses are left deserted and the fields ruined and ravaged,
12 And after this God shall remove the men far off, and they that are left upon the land shall be multiplied. and the LORD removes people far away, and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land. until the LORD has sent everyone far away and the land is utterly forsaken.
13 And yet there shall be a tenth upon it, and again it shall be for a spoil, as a turpentine tree, and as an acorn when it falls out of its husk. And though a tenth remain in it, it will be burned again, like a terebinth or an oak, whose stump remains when it is felled.” The holy seed is its stump. And though a tenth remains in the land, it will again be laid waste. But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps when they are cut down, so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.”
